Chapter Twelve
Jane
My heart was pounding so fast, every beat tumbled into the next. I could hardly get a breath in. Little bonfires lit on the surface of my skin, and I was already on fire, the flames licking higher and higher inside.
When Ian lifted his hand and licked my arousal off his fingers, my knees went weak, and my pussy clenched. I didn't even know if I could make it through this encounter with him.
His gaze swept over me as he lowered his hands slowly. I adjusted my sweater, tugging it up. My breasts bounced below the collar again.
His eyes darkened, and his mouth twisted slightly. âPity. Thatâs okay. I'm going to see all of you soon.â
Then he was reaching for my hand, and our footsteps echoed as we walked down the hallway. He led me up the stairs into the master bedroom. He closed the door behind us, the sound of the latch clicking loudly in the room.
Throughout this home, all of the ceilings were tall. With the hardwood floors and sparse furnishings, any sound echoed easily. Although I'd been so swept into the rushing current of desire that I'd forgotten myself just moments ago, my self-consciousness came crashing back.
My hands curled into small fists, and I squeezed them together before stretching them open. Maybe I hadn't gotten to the full act, but I'd had plenty of experience with foreplay. I already knew that no one I'd been with even came close to the fiery inferno of need that burned between Ian and me. He kicked off his shoes before turning to look at me. I was wearing a pair of slippers and stepped out of them. We stared at each other from where we were standing at the foot of the bed.
It felt as if we were all alone in this room, in this world, with the snow swirling outside and the sound of the wind coming in rhythmic gusts off the ocean. It was winter, and we were alone on this windswept coast.
Without a word, Ian crossed over to the fireplace. I watched as he efficiently built a fire using the wood stacked in a small rack by the wall. When he straightened and turned to me, his lips kicked up at a corner, promptly sending my belly into a spinning somersault.
âThere. Now it'll be even warmer.â
He hooked his hand behind his head, catching the back of his shirt and yanking it up over his head. My mouth went dry as I stared at him shirtless. He was muscled and lean, his skin bronzed with a dusting of dark hair across the muscled planes of his chest and then arrowing down to disappear behind the waistband of his jeans. His arousal was evident, and I clenched again, feeling slick arousal at my core. My pulse galloped along, and I took in a shallow breath of air when I lifted my eyes to his.
I moved to curl my hands around the bottom of my sweater, but he shook his head.
